Who Should Consider a Second Opinion?

Many patients seek a second opinion before making important decisions about orthopedic care.

You may benefit from a consultation with Dr. Carlson if you:

  • Have been told you need shoulder, knee, or hip surgery
  • Want an expert orthopedic second opinion before committing to surgery
  • Would like to explore non-surgical treatment options first
  • Are an active adult or athlete dealing with a joint injury
  • Have ongoing or unexplained joint pain
  • Aren’t satisfied with your current diagnosis or treatment plan
  • Are a parent of a young athlete with a sports injury and seeking options
  • Live outside the area and want to assess whether we are the right team for you

A second opinion can help ensure you understand all available options before making a major decision about your health and mobility.

Why Getting a Second Opinion Matters

Orthopedic conditions or injuries often involve decisions that affect your recovery time, future mobility, and quality of life. A second opinion can help you feel confident about the path forward.

A second opinion may:

  • Confirm whether surgery is necessary
  • Identify alternative treatments or newer surgical techniques
  • Clarify expected recovery and outcomes
  • Provide peace of mind before making a major medical decision

Most importantly, it ensures you fully understand your condition and treatment options.

Payment Information

While on-site consultations are typically billed through your insurance, virtual consultations are offered on a direct-pay basis and are not submitted to insurance. The fee for a 30-minute virtual consultation is $350 and includes the consultation and related services outlined above.
